Sport England-England Basketball Clubmark News

Spelthorne Atoms were awarded Sport England-England Basketball Clubmark on 26 September (53rd club to do so) and they will also be receiving a £500 cheque as part of the Clubmark 100 scheme.

"My sincerest congratulations to the volunteers at Spelthorne Atoms. It is a real pleasure to be able to reward and recognise their work," said England Basketball National Club Development Manager, Steve Darlow.

Sam Spare, EB’s Regional Development Manager for the South said,  “I would like to congratulate Spelthorne for having reached Clubmark Status. The Club is wholly committed to the development of young basketball players and adopts a progressive attitude to all aspects of its work. Spelthorne Atoms have an excellent programme in place and I look forward to working with the Club in future as they continue to go from strength to strength."

Spelthorne Atoms club Chairman, Steve Bishop, was very proud of the work put into achieving Clubmark:

“For an independent club like ours, it is a great achievement to be able to set the same standards as the bigger clubs and to be recognised for doing so.  It will help us to forge links with local schools, thereby increasing the number of children playing and raising the standard of local basketball. I would like to thank Sam Spare for his helpful guidance and everybody at the club who has contributed towards attaining this award."

SURREY SPORTS CLUB SETS THE STANDARD

Local trailblazing sports club is first again

A local basketball club continues to scoop awards and national recognition for its trailblazing approach to sport.

Spelthorne Atoms is the first basketball club in Surrey to achieve the prestigious double award of England Basketball’s Clubmark and Active Surrey’s Gold standard.  These two highly prized awards recognise and acknowledge the Atoms continuous improvement and development over recent years into a “quality sporting environment” that allow young people to enhance their basketball skills in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

On top of this award, Spelthorne Atoms have simultaneously achieved the Active Surrey Gold award.  This is the highest level of the Active Surrey Club Accreditation, which is a scheme that recognises and promotes the best sports clubs across Surrey.  Currently there is only one other club in the county that has achieved the Active Surrey Gold standard.

Spelthorne Atoms provides opportunities for young people of all ages and standards to come along and play basketball.  The club has a number of teams at different ages in the National League that continually excel and perform to the highest standards.

Steve accepts the Active Surrey Gold Club Accreditation Status from Simon Hards, Spelthorne Council Sports Development Officer.

This joins the clubs other recent prestigious award of Sport England Clubmark status. The presentation took place during an U16 National League training session.
